Charles Wright
began his wrestling career in the now defunct United States Wrestling
Alliance as Kama the Soultaker. His biggest success came when he
defeated Jerry "The King" Lawler for the USWA title in October
of '89.
When Wright moved to the WWF he became Papa Shango, a supposed follower of voodoo who sported a white painted face and a necklace of bones. Wright was to be pushed as one of the WWF's top heels, but since the gimmick never worked out, Wright floated around the midcard until 1995 when he dropped the Papa Shango gimmick and started using the name Kama in 1995. In 1997 Wright became Kama Mustafa and joined Faarooq Asad's Nation of Domination along with D'Lo Brown. Mustafa would later team up with such members as Rocky Maivia and Owen Hart leading into 1998. In the early going of '98, The Rock (which Maivia was now known as) took over the Nation and led them as a decent heel group with The Rock being the crown jewel. At this time, Wright was being called "The Godfather" Kama Mustafa. Soon enough the Nation deteriorated after having an excellent feud with the babyface stable of the WWF, D-Generation X. When The Rock eventually skyrocketed to superstardom, the Nation fell apart with Wright eventually become simply The Godfather going into 1999. As The Goodfather, Wright enjoyed his greatest WWF success to date. He portrayed the image of a pimp and usually brought sexy ladies to the ring with him who were usually from local strip clubs in and around the arena's the WWF was wrestling at. For a short time he teamed with the porn star gimmicked Val Venis forming a team with the unofficial name of Supply and Demand. In April of '99 the Godfather defeated Goldust for the WWF Intercontinental title. Jeff Jarrett later defeated Wright for the title towards the end of May. Once again Godfather fell back into the midcard, having mediocre matches with other midcard stars such as Mideon and Gangrel. Heading into 2000, the Godfather teamed up with D'Lo Brown, who also adopted the pimp gimmick. The two had a decent run until the summer of 2000 when Brown formed Lo Down with former Headbanger Chaz and Wright became the Goodfather when he joined the Right to Censor. The RTC as it had come to be known as, was a group led by Steven Richards who strived to censor everything bad in the WWF. Wright reversed his Godfather role and regularly teamed up with other RTC member, Bull Buchanan. On November 6, 2000, Bull and the Goodfather captured the WWF Tag Team titles from Matt and Jeff Hardy. Edge and Christian would later defeat the RTC duo in December. In 2001 the RTC eventually deteriorated and the Goodfather and Bull went out on their own, becoming part of the WWF collation that is fighting against the WCW invasion.
